Basically, Three Man Ranch Sorting is a fast growing, family friendly, western riding event where teams of three riders compete to move ten cows in numeric order from one end of the arena through a gate to the other end of the arena.
The cows are numbered zero to nine with large tags. A random cow's number is called, This cow is the first to be sorted out of the herd and moved through the gate.
Three riders make up a team. Rider number one sorts the called cow out of the herd. Rider number two turns back the other cows with the wrong numbers. Rider number three guards the "gate" and makes sure only the correctly numbered cow goes through the gate. The riders change positions as each cow is sorted until either all ten cows are sorted or the time limit is reached.
Novice teams have 75 seconds to sort the cows, and they have a coach riding and instructing them. The experienced teams have one minute to sort the cows. The team which sorts the most cows with the fastest time wins. Bring a smile and a barrel full of laughs! The cows are unpredictable and do the most hilarious antics trying to escape.
